Understanding levels

What do A1, A2, B1 and B2 mean?

Our intakes follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Each level maps to concrete skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

The examples apply to both German and Italian; vocabulary, certifications, and goals change according to your destination.

A1

Beginner

CECRL / CEFR

You start with the basics: greetings, introductions, simple questions, and short instructions.

  • Pronunciation and alphabet
  • Everyday vocabulary
  • Simple self-introduction phrases
  • Listening and short dialogues
A2

Elementary

CECRL / CEFR

You strengthen everyday communication: routine, simple past events, short announcements, and brief texts.

  • Basic tenses and longer sentences
  • Shopping, transport, housing, appointments
  • Simple messages and forms
  • Guided conversation
B1

Intermediate

CECRL / CEFR

You build autonomy: give opinions, recount experiences, follow familiar conversations, and write structured texts.

  • Simple argumentation
  • Study or visa situations
  • Emails and short texts
  • More spontaneous speaking
B2

Upper intermediate

CECRL / CEFR

You work on precision: denser texts, nuanced arguments, and more comfortable interaction.

  • Debates and presentations
  • Academic or professional texts
  • Demanding exam preparation
  • Fluency and grammar accuracy

Durations are indicative: progress depends on attendance, personal work, and your starting point. A placement test can guide your entry if you studied elsewhere.
