Frequently asked questions - Italian courses

Indicative information; our team confirms schedule and fees when you enrol.

Where do I start if I have never studied Italian?

You start at A1: beginner group, steady pace, focus on speaking and listening. A free placement test can also guide you.

Are classes online?

Classes are in person in Bafoussam, with practice on our mobile app between sessions.

Does the course fee include PLIDA or CILS?

No: the course covers teaching, internal assessments, and preparation. Official exam fees are charged separately.

What level do I need for Universitaly or a study visa?

Requirements vary by programme and university; B1 or B2 is often required for Italian-taught tracks. Always confirm with your institution and consulate.

Can I join a higher level if I studied elsewhere?

Yes, with credible proof or after a free placement test so the group stays coherent.

Do you prepare for TOLC or admissions?

We focus on language and certifications; guidance on Universitaly / TOLC can be discussed in advisory sessions.

What is a financial guarantor for an Italy study visa?

Usually a parent or solvent relative who signs a lettera di impegno and provides proof of income. The consulate checks that resources cover your studies. See our visa page for accepted guarantor profiles.

What housing proof is required for the visa?

Typically a dichiarazione di alloggio (rented housing or residence) or dichiarazione di ospitalita (staying with someone in Italy). The address must match your university city. See our student housing page too.

How much financial means must I show?

For 2026, plan for about EUR 10,000 per year in traceable resources (student or family), or a MAECI/university scholarship. Health insurance must cover at least EUR 30,000 in hospital costs.

Financial guarantor

Who can be a guarantor and which documents are needed?

The guarantor is a person (parent, close family member or financially sound third party) who commits in writing to cover your stay costs. The consulate analyses consistency between income, banking history and declared amounts — a guarantor alone is no longer sufficient without overall proof of subsistence.

Employed guarantor in Italy

  • Signed lettera di impegno
  • 730 or CUD and payslips (4 to 6 months)
  • Stato di famiglia
  • Recent bank statements
  • ID documents and accommodation letter if applicable

Guarantor in Cameroon (employee or civil servant)

  • Signed undertaking letter
  • Collective life certificate legalised at MINREX
  • Payslips and bank statements (6 months)
  • Tax declaration and ID documents

Guarantor in another country (France, Belgium, etc.)

  • Undertaking letter in French, Italian or English
  • Proof of income and bank statements (6 months)
  • ID documents and family certificate

Multiple guarantors are possible if the file remains coherent. Know your guarantor's details — the embassy may question you during submission.

Subsistence

Financial proof required in 2026

The student must demonstrate sufficient resources for the entire study period. Funds must be real, available and justifiable (student or family up to 4th degree). A MAECI or university scholarship may replace part of this proof.

  • Indicative amount: approx. 10,000 EUR per year (2026/27 ministerial circular)
  • Recent bank statements and documented source of funds
  • Consistency between guarantor income and declared amounts
  • Health insurance with minimum 30,000 EUR hospitalisation coverage
Accommodation

Housing proof for the visa

The consulate requires proof of accommodation in Italy: dichiarazione di alloggio (student housing or rental), dichiarazione di ospitalita (staying with a host) or temporary reservation. Prepare this document alongside your search for permanent housing.

  • Dichiarazione di alloggio: completed by the landlord or accommodation provider
  • Dichiarazione di ospitalita: completed by your host in Italy
  • Rental contract or reservation certificate if available
  • Address consistent with your chosen university city
