Housing and the study visa

For a Type D visa, the consulate requires proof of accommodation in Italy. Prepare one of these documents alongside your housing search.

Form completed by the landlord, agency or residence confirming your address in Italy for the duration of your studies.

Dichiarazione di ospitalita

If you stay with someone in Italy: form signed by the host with a copy of their ID.

Contract or reservation

Lease, reservation confirmation or university residence letter depending on your situation.

Practical tips in Italy

  • Indicative shared-room budget: EUR 250–450/month depending on the city (southern and mid-size cities are often cheaper).
  • Apply for your codice fiscale as soon as possible after arrival — often required for a lease.
  • Check distance to your university and transport (student pass).
  • The address on your accommodation declaration must match the city on your Universitaly pre-enrolment.
