Your project
to Italy.
Universitaly, financial guarantor, housing proof and BLS submission: the full student visa procedure explained.
Key steps for your Italy visa
Universitaly pre-enrolment, MINREX legalisation, Type D file and BLS appointment in Douala or Yaounde.
Universitaly pre-enrollment
Create your Universitaly account, select your programs and obtain the riempimento di prescrizione (official university response) — essential for the visa.
PLIDA / CILS certification (B2)
Obtain your B2 Italian certificate (or B2 English if the program is taught in English). ILC prepares you for PLIDA and CILS exams in Bafoussam.
Document legalisation in Cameroon
Authenticate and legalise your documents before consular submission:
- Birth certificate: municipality of origin then MINREX legalisation (minrexeservice.com)
- Baccalaureate / transcripts: MINESUP certification (Yaounde) or Koumassi delegation (Douala) then MINREX
- Sworn translations into Italian of diplomas and transcripts
- Dichiarazione di Valore if required for your program
- Keep originals + certified copies of every document
Student visa file (Type D)
Gather all documents required for the student visa:
- National long-stay visa form (D) completed and signed
- Valid passport (15 months minimum) + 2 ID photos 3.5 x 4.5 cm
- Proof of subsistence and guarantor lettera di impegno (or MAECI scholarship)
- Accommodation declaration (dichiarazione di alloggio or ospitalita)
- Health insurance (minimum 30,000 EUR coverage) + Universitaly confirmation + B2 certificate
BLS submission and departure prep
Submit your complete file at the BLS center, then prepare your arrival in Italy:
- BLS Douala (ATRIUM, Spar) or Yaounde (Y-BUILDING, Bastos) — blsitalyvisa.com/cameroon
- Submit at least 90 days before departure; processing time 2 to 8 weeks
- After approval: housing, codice fiscale, permesso di soggiorno, bank account

Who can be a guarantor and which documents are needed?
The guarantor is a person (parent, close family member or financially sound third party) who commits in writing to cover your stay costs. The consulate analyses consistency between income, banking history and declared amounts — a guarantor alone is no longer sufficient without overall proof of subsistence.
Employed guarantor in Italy
- Signed lettera di impegno
- 730 or CUD and payslips (4 to 6 months)
- Stato di famiglia
- Recent bank statements
- ID documents and accommodation letter if applicable
Guarantor in Cameroon (employee or civil servant)
- Signed undertaking letter
- Collective life certificate legalised at MINREX
- Payslips and bank statements (6 months)
- Tax declaration and ID documents
Guarantor in another country (France, Belgium, etc.)
- Undertaking letter in French, Italian or English
- Proof of income and bank statements (6 months)
- ID documents and family certificate
Multiple guarantors are possible if the file remains coherent. Know your guarantor's details — the embassy may question you during submission.
Financial proof required in 2026
The student must demonstrate sufficient resources for the entire study period. Funds must be real, available and justifiable (student or family up to 4th degree). A MAECI or university scholarship may replace part of this proof.
- Indicative amount: approx. 10,000 EUR per year (2026/27 ministerial circular)
- Recent bank statements and documented source of funds
- Consistency between guarantor income and declared amounts
- Health insurance with minimum 30,000 EUR hospitalisation coverage
Housing proof for the visa
The consulate requires proof of accommodation in Italy: dichiarazione di alloggio (student housing or rental), dichiarazione di ospitalita (staying with a host) or temporary reservation. Prepare this document alongside your search for permanent housing.
- Dichiarazione di alloggio: completed by the landlord or accommodation provider
- Dichiarazione di ospitalita: completed by your host in Italy
- Rental contract or reservation certificate if available
- Address consistent with your chosen university city
